Delphi, Indiana
Indiana Landmarks worked with Axcess to repurpose the Monon High Bridge, an old railroad bridge in Delphi, Indiana, into an overlook and memorial at the end of their hike and bike trail. The original bridge beams were constructed with rivets along the top surface which created a challenge for how the walkway planks would bear on the beams. Axcess found a solution using a combination of bearing pads and hollow FRP profile that fit over the rivets allowing the walkway to be safe and secure.
The bridge includes two outlook points that are wider so that users can stop and enjoy the view over the river. Axcess was able to design custom railing to widen at these exact locations along the length of the bridge. The use of weathering steel for the railing material provides a durable and long-lasting solution while complimenting the rustic look of the existing structure.
