Jackson’s Grant Pedestrian Boardwalk

Indianapolis, IN

Crafting a beautiful pedestrian bridge for a new Indianapolis housing development.

Republic Development was building a new housing development, Jackson’s Grant, in the Indianapolis, Indiana area. They wanted to include a pedestrian bridge along with walking trails throughout the neighborhood.

This project included some unique requirements such as:

  • Avoid tripping hazards. Republic wanted a level and smooth walkway for safety and to improve stroller access.
  • Preserve the view. It was important to avoid obstructing the scenic view from the bridge and create a specific visual effect.
  • Color choice. It was important to have color options that blended into the existing landscape.
  • Maintenance Free. To keep costs low for the Homeowners Association, Republic wanted a durable solution to limit future costs.

Axcess designed a bridge that consists of weathering steel beams with a solid surface fiberglass deck. The railing was omitted in order to maintain the scenic view, and wood curbs were installed to ensure safe passage over the bridge. The solid surface FRP also allows for a wide range of color options to create the desired visual effect.
